September 14 is National Anthem Day!

The purpose of this day is to encourage people in the United States to learn more about our national anthem—and to sing it!

This year SCC Elementary celebrated with a unit on the history of the Star-Spangled Banner in Fourth Grade, by singing the Star-Spangled Banner in Third Grade, and by listening to it in Second Grade. We also did a fun movement sequence to Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa (another piece written with the flag in mind).

We're part of the National Anthem Project, and after the Fourth Grade students memorize the words (and write them down in a couple weeks) we receive a certificate from the National Association for Music Educators (NAfME) and flag pencils to celebrate the achievement.
